Renewed Resolve
Main Floor

Our initial consultation with the homeowner was guided by a single, heartfelt objective: to design a functional kitchen that would once again become a source of enjoyment and pride. For years, she had selflessly prioritized the needs of the family, and now, it was finally her time to invest in her own comfort and vision for her home. As we delved deeper into her aspirations, it became clear that this project was about more than just a kitchen remodel; it was about reviving the soul of a home rich with decades of cherished memories.

Our goal was not to erase the past, but to enhance and celebrate it, creating a space where she would be excited to host loved ones and cook in a kitchen truly worthy of her culinary talent. The home's existing architectural character, defined by the striking golden oak beams and a mantle set against a deep red brick fireplace, provided a foundation of inherent warmth. This element became a central design cue. To complement and elevate this warmth, we introduced a sophisticated palette.

The large central island was finished in a deep, vibrant jade green—a color choice that spoke of nature and permanence. This hue seamlessly married with the artisanal dark green tile selected for the kitchen backsplash, establishing a focal point of color and texture. The entire kitchen space was a complete reimagining, executed with meticulous attention to detail. This included all-new custom cabinetry, designed not only for beauty but for maximum efficiency. A full custom hidden drop zone and dedicated pantry area were integrated into the design, offering essential functionality without compromising the aesthetic flow.

The transformation was completed with a comprehensive update of all lighting fixtures, fresh paint, and the installation of new flooring, entirely redefining the space. The decision to carry the warm wood plank flooring throughout the entire main level, up the staircase, and across the entire second floor proved to be a singular, impactful design choice—a true game-changer that unified the home's various spaces. Furthermore, every wall and ceiling received a fresh coat of paint, instantly brightening the interiors. A key refinement involved repainting the home's original, robust oak trim. Instead of removing this historical detail, it was lovingly transformed with a beautiful creamy, soft white, providing a crisp, modern contrast to the newly refreshed walls. While most of the home’s lighting was updated to modern fixtures, we deliberately chose to honor a few key pieces.  The small gold and crystal pendant drops, gifted from her mother, were carefully retained, serving as a constant, beautiful nod to her past. Similarly, the original glass and gold flush mount fixtures were kept in both the front entry and the upstairs hallway as they were pieces that still fit the overall feel of the home.

Having lived with utility spaces that were "just okay" for too long, the homeowner discovered a renewed eagerness to update areas she hadn't initially considered. The laundry room, a place of mundane routine, was transformed into a space of unexpected delight. We introduced a new, fun patterned tile underfoot that incorporated the same energetic pop of jade green found on the kitchen island. Paired with new custom cabinetry and a highly efficient laundry tower system, the task of doing laundry became quickly more enjoyable. This beautiful tile was then carried across the hallway and into the half bath, where we repeated the design continuity by painting the vanity to match the striking green of the kitchen island.
