When entrusted with a space, we move intentionally and with purpose — the home and its inhabitants are referenced to guide every decision as we design each detail. Our strengths are in interpreting the architectural style of the home and marrying that to the client’s individual design tastes and style.

 

Led by the client’s classic contemporary taste within a home of transitional architecture, we aimed to achieve the perfect balance for this family residence. To modernize kitchen functionality, we removed the wall between the living room, and kitchen, immediately improving flow and usability for the family.

 

We carefully considered how the family uses the space throughout the day, incorporating thoughtful details that simplify daily routines — tray dividers, pull-out water bottle storage, a trash cabinet with roll-out drawer above. A custom pocket door cabinet with a white oak interior provides an elegant storage solution for small appliances needed to start the day.

 

The kitchen begins with an impactful statement: a custom island designed collaboratively by our team. An attached custom furniture piece is crafted from solid white oak with a reeded face mirroring details in the hood. The piece is topped with butcher block and open shelves below and was installed on adjustable feet, ensuring it remains flush with the island countertop even as the butcher block is sanded and treated over time. The waterfall detail on the island demanded meticulous attention to achieve the flawless execution we expect, and the result is a stunning centerpiece.

 

A painterly neutral pallet is soft and serene while preserving interest and contrast. The island, painted in Sherwin Williams’ Iron Ore anchors the room, delivering a bold, timeless statement. Colored smoke glass pendants echo the island’s tone without disrupting the visual lines. We love how the pendants offer an industrial touch that complements the client’s aesthetic while creating a cohesive transitional vignette. 

 

The solid white oak hood was crafted to work in tandem with the island’s end piece, producing visual cohesion and impact. Inspired by the designers and expertly milled by our cabinet shop, it features a clever installation technique developed with our CNC operator to facilitate easier integration with the filtration system. This ensures not only efficient cooking ventilation but also healthy air quality for the entire family.
